JOIN US: 2024 Housing Summit

Keynote by author of “Homelessness is a Housing Problem”

On Thursday, November 21, 2024, author and housing researcher Gregg Colburn will speak at the 2024 Housing Summit hosted by Better Housing Together in partnership with Lane County, the UO School of Planning, Public Policy & Management, and local partners.

WHEN: Thursday, November 21, 2024 with 4:30 PM Reception and 5:30 PM Keynote Presentation

WHERE: UO Alumni Center, 1720 E 13th Avenue, Eugene. EmX service to UO Agate and parking available on-site in garage.

EVENT DETAILS: Gregg Colburn is co-author of Homelessness is a Housing Problem: How Structural Factors Explain U.S. Patterns (University of California Press) and an associate professor in the Runstad Department of Real Estate in the College of Built Environments at the University of Washington. His work has been featured by The Atlantic, The New York Times, The Economist, Bloomberg, and National Public Radio. Gregg serves as co-chair of the University of Washington’s Homelessness Research Initiative and is a member of the National Alliance to End Homelessness Research Council. He holds a B.A. from Albion College, an M.B.A. from Northwestern University, and a M.S.W. and Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota.

Middle Housing: EUG Public Hearing

Public hearing on re-adoption of Eugene’s Middle Housing Code

WHEN: Monday, November 18, 2024 @ 5:00pm, with hearing beginning @ 5:30pm in-person or by ZOOM. Sign-up to testify at 5:00pm.

TWO WAYS TO SHARE TESTIMONY:

1) Email testimony to mayorcouncilandcitymanager@eugene-or.gov  on your own schedule. Your voice matters!

2) Testify in-person or by ZOOM by requesting to speak at 5:00pm (in-person at Eugene City Hall or using these instructions). Testimony can be 1-3 minutes. City Councils always need to be reminded that housing policy decisions are about real people and our community’s future!

Eugene Middle Housing: Public Hearing @ City Council

The final public hearing in Eugene’s work to adopt new Middle Housing Code Amendments

WHEN: Monday, April 18, 2022 @ 7:30pm on ZOOM. Sign-up to testify between 7:15-7:35pm.

TWO WAYS TO SPEAK UP FOR HOUSING:

1) Give in-person testimony on Monday by joining the meeting in Zoom and “raise hand” before 7:30pm. Testimony will be 2-3 minutes each, which is about a half page or 2/3 page of writing. Choose 1-2-3 reasons that Middle Housing is important to you and your family, and please share! City Councils always need to be reminded that housing policy decisions are about real people and our community’s future!

2) Email testimony to middlehousingtestimony@eugene-or.gov on your own schedule! Speaking up in-person is the most visible way to support this work, but email testimony is also really valuable. Your voice matters!

In partnership with the Human Rights Commission and Poverty & Homelessness Committee

WHERE: Campbell Community Center (155 High Street in Eugene) and via Zoom. Choices!

EVENT DETAILS: Request a password to join at Invisiclass@gmail.com. A panel discussion after the film will be led by Nicole Desch of the Eugene Chamber of Commerce with Heather Silecki from Everyone Village, Kaarin Knudson from Better Housing Together, and Heather Marek from Oregon Law Center. Discussion will focus on what Eugene is doing to alleviate the crisis.

ABOUT “THE INVISIBLE CLASS”: Why are there so many people who are homeless? “The Invisible Class” explores what it means to be homeless in the US, challenging stereotypes and examining the systemic causes of mass homelessness in the wealthiest nation in the world. From coast to coast, the film is a day in the life of homelessness across the US.

Hear from regional thought-leaders on ADU design and construction, including: Allison Bryan from Open Studio Collective, Amanda Petretti from Studio Petretti, Kol Peterson, ADU guru and author of “Backyard Revolution,” and Richie Weinman, homeowner of one of few ADUs (there were only four) permitted in Eugene last year.
